A solicitor based in
Derbyshire is warning people to be wary of cut price offers,
particularly for will writing services, that have appeared on the
internet in recent years.
Nikki
Spencer is a member of the national organisation Solicitors for the Elderly
(SFE) and she has commented that some of the cheaper will-writing services failed to take a person's
full circumstances into account.
Ms
Spencer said "As a lawyer, I will want to see a client face to face to
ensure that they understand what they want to do and that they have the
mental capacity to sign a will. I will also carry out an identity
check and ensure that my client is not being forced or bullied into
making the will in those terms. Solicitors
are now being asked to check online wills yet we have never met the
client and so can't ascertain their identity, mental capacity,
conflicts, pressures or influences." |
