Pupils in years five to eight from all schools in Derby and the surrounding are are being invited to write, produce and record a piece of music on the theme of anti-bullying to mark the start of Anti-Bullying Week.

Click here!Councillor Les Allen, city council cabinet member for children and young people, said "This is an exciting and innovative way to raise issues about combating bullying in schools. All our schools have clear anti-bullying policies and this special week is an opportunity for schools to remind children that bullying is being taken very seriously."

Songs will be judged and the winners will be invited to a celebration event being held next summer. The winners also have the opportunity to record their songs for a CD and help to compile a booklet of lyrics. The winners' CD will be distributed to schools in Derby. The launch is being held at Mackworth Conference Centre on Wednesday.

Groups of children from 10 schools will take part in workshops that will focus on anti-bullying, singing, songwriting and music composition. The theme for this year's Anti-Bullying Week is "Being different, belonging together".
